Guest of Dishonor May Foil First Annual ‘Shine On Madison’
This weekend on SAT, NOV 18, Madison’s Central Business Improvement District (BID), with support from Madison Community Foundation, will host the inaugural lighting ceremony, ‘Shine On Madison,’ to kick off the holiday season. Many downtown businesses are participating in various ways – including turning their lights on at 6:08 p.m. Overture Center is proud to participate with the twinkle lights you see in our Rotunda and Overture Hall Lobby.. as well as GRINCHY GREEN with the LED lights throughout those spaces.
Broadway’s Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical will be in town TUE, NOV 21 – SUN, NOV 26, but The Grinch himself will be flying in early to attend ‘Shine On Madison’ as the Guest of Dishonor on SAT, NOV 18. We’ll do our best to keep him under control, but he’s not a big fan of holiday celebrations…
There’s a parade, vendors and museums are staying open late for the occasion. Here are some of the special events happening downtown during ‘Shine On Madison’ on SAT, NOV 18:

The Wisconsin State Journal article (written by Gayle Worland) also has some great information about the event. “It kicks off with the main event Saturday — a brief and light-hearted lighting ceremony — when all those bulbs go live with the larger-than-life help of Bucky Badger, Maynard G. Mallard, Santa and even Dr. Seuss’ the Grinch Who Stole Christmas.”
We hope you’ll join us at the top of State Street around 5:30 p.m. to see everything light up at 6:08 p.m., and help stop The Grinch from ruining everything!
