Renowned photojournalist David Guttenfelder has spent the past 20 years covering world events in more than 100 counties. In 2011, he helped the Associated Press open a bureau in North Korea—the first-ever western news agency in this mysterious, isolated country. Since then, David has visited more than 40 times, making dubious allies and broadcasting formerly forbidden images around the world. In 2016, David was on the first tourist cruise liner to Cuba and, since then, has returned on several occasions—including Fidel Castor’s funeral procession—to document this largely unknown and fascinating country for National Geographic. As a leading influencer in smartphone photography and social media, David engages with almost one million followers.
