Baba Yaga: A Portrait of the Wickedest Witch
Fri, Feb 10 - Sun, Feb 19
Promenade Hall: $14 - $29
In a deep, dark forest. In a house that sits on chicken legs. In a mortar, as she flies through the night sky.
It’s Baba Yaga, the grotesque old witch who has haunted Russian folktales and fascinated painters and writers for hundreds of years. This mysterious and evil old woman, a peasant girl named Vasilisa, her magic doll, and her wicked stepsisters come to life in a vivid Cinderella story. Complemented by puppetry, storytelling techniques, and fantastical costumes by acclaimed New York designer David Quinn, this portrait is beautifully rendered by the always creative choreography of Kanopy Artistic Directors Lisa Thurrell and Robert E. Cleary, in collaboration with other company members.
Join us for a spectacular and enchanting exploration of this mysterious character, who so many artists have been drawn to over the centuries.
