Promenade Lounge: Free
6 PM - 8 PM
Join us for the Overture Galleries Spring Exhibition Reception Friday, May 6, 2016 from 6 PM – 8 PM in the Promenade Lounge!
Three exhibitions run from Tuesday, March 15 – Sunday, June 5, 2016:
Gallery I – Criminal
Utilizing the democratic media of print, students, faculty and recent graduates from UW Madison explore the inherent conflicts in the idea of ‘criminality,’ and the prevailing ideologies that influence and motivate our understanding of the subject.
Gallery II – Interlude – Kimberly Benson, Mackenzie Reynolds
Through building up and removing materials the work of artists Kimberly Benson and Mackenzie Reynolds imitates processes of memory and emotion. Benson’s paintings evoke themes of tension between chaos and control, grief and rapture, beauty and the grotesque. In Reynolds’ manipulation of the family album she studies the impact of time that lies between a memory and a photograph.
Gallery III – An Altered Resemblance – Michael Ward, Ariel Wood
Artists Michael Ward and Ariel Wood explore otherness and human consciousness through abstract and surreal imagery. Ward’s vibrant illustrations, reminiscent of faces, animals and beasts, evoke the absurdity and the whimsy of imagination. Ariel Wood’s images of the familiar made uncanny bring new concepts to preconceived, socially constructed ideologies.
Gallery receptions are sponsored by the Arts Access Fund, a component fund of the Madison Community Foundation, and by contributions to Overture Center for the Arts.
