Make Music Madison: Rock the Dock on Sunday, June 21
Overture Center is proud to host Make Music Madison, our city’s annual one-day free, outdoor music festival. We’ll help create the continuous wall of music that will surround the city on Sunday, June 21.
Overture will host five local musicians and bands on two stages — the Variety Stage on Fairchild Street, and the Rock the Dock Stage in our loading dock, making literal garage bands out of two of Madison’s best acts.
Fairchild Street Variety Stage:
10 – 11 am: Autumn Reverie
11 am – Noon: Dan Stier
12:30 – 1:30 pm: Beni Daiko
Henry Street Rock the Dock Stage:
10 – 11:30 am: After the Rain
Noon – 1:30 pm: Charles Walker Band
About the Artists
Autumn Reverie is, according to their own website, “five guys with a passion for music and a hate for each other.” They’re an explosive post grunge band based here in Madison, WI. They are known for their high energy performances no matter what the crowd or venue size. They have had the pleasure to share the bill with many international acts such as Bush, Chevelle, Shinedown, Eye Empire, Filter, and Art of Dying.
Dan Stier picked up his guitar and played with friends and family whenever possible during a long career as an attorney. Since leaving the law business about two years ago, he’s been able to devote much more time to my passion for music. Now performing regularly at coffeehouses, with covers of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Beatles, CCR, Tom Petty, he also sprinkles in some original songs. Upon “retirement”, he joined the Nashville Songwriters’ Association and has already been named “One to Watch.”
Beni Daiko is the essence of community arts. The Japanese drumming group seeks to preserve the ancient art form and connect members of the local community with their heritage and each other. Through weekly open meetings and rehearsal sessions they’ve built an impressive repertoire of heart-pounding music.
After the Rain took home three Madison Area Music Awards last year, including Youth Drummer of the Year for Quinn Mattsson, Youth Bassist of the Year for Dominic Cannarella-Andersen) and Best Youth Band of 2014. The grungy alt-rock trio of West High students plays shows in and around Wisconsin, such as Summerfest and Vans Warped Tour, as well as placing 3rd in the Launchpad competition finals. Definite up-and-comers!
The Charles Walker Band is rooted in the blues, but has refined their sound into what can best be described as soul, a fusion of funk, r&b and Motown. With Charles, a former standup comedian, on sax and vocals, the quintet’s music retains deep gospel influences and positive lyrical messages. As a testament to their live magic, the group has opened for national acts including Earth Wind & Fire, Aaron Neville, Robert Cray, BB King, Richard Marx, Eddie Shaw (Howlin Wolf’s Sax Player), Booker T, Cameo and Bernard Allison. It’ll be a real treat to see them live for free!
