Community Day at Overture Center!
On Sunday, May 22, Overture welcomed over 400 parents, kids, teens, and community members in for a very special evening of family-sized fun, food and festivities, capped off by a breathtaking performance of Disney’s The Lion King!
Made possible by a very generous anonymous donor, Overture was pleased to welcome guests from over a dozen different community organizations, including Goodman Community Center, Boys & Girls Club, Simpson Street Free Press, One City Early Learning, Nehemiah Center for Urban Leadership Development, Lussier Community Education Center, Fountain of Life Covenant Church, Omega School, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Verona School District, Urban League, and more!
“Community Day at Overture Center was a great and diverse event for people that normally could not afford to see a show as a family,” said Kesha Bozeman. “At least 50% of the people I invited were first-time attendees. Congratulations to Overture for putting on a successful event!”
The Lion King Community Day began at 5 PM outside the Promenade Lounge, where each group received The Lion King memorabilia generously donated by Disney. Guests then entered the Promenade Terrace and Lobby to find a delicious assortment of food, including pizza donated by Ian’s and family-friendly snacks from Catering a Fresco.
While they enjoyed their meal, children were able to decorate and color festive animal mask headbands provided by the show. Families were also treated to an intricate display of LEGO creations in the Promenade Lounge, assembled and presented by the Wisconsin LEGO Users Group (WisLUG).
With the help of staff and volunteers, the event was a wild success. Overture Center looks forward to hosting more community events and opportunities in the future, thanks to the generous multi-year gift from the anonymous donor.
