‘Centering Disability’ workshops held Dec. 12 and 14
As a continuation of our learning journey of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, two national leaders, Sarah J. Hom and Sarah Kenny, presented two “Centering Disability: A Foundation for Meaningful Disability Inclusion” workshops on Monday, Dec. 12 and Wednesday, Dec. 14. Sarah J. Hom and Sarah Kenny have years of experience affiliated with the arts and as disabled women.
This foundational training was intended to build an understanding of how disability has been constructed within our society, how ableism is defined and how it has shown up throughout time and within our industry, and how we might create the antidote by building an anti-ableist practice.
Sarah J. Hom (she/her): As a proud disabled woman of color, Sarah is passionate about and dedicated to increasing accessibility, equity and inclusion in the arts—from backstage to the front of house and everything in between. She is Roundabout Theatre Company’s director of audience services and serves as a staff leader for their EDI work.
