Following an outstanding Broadway run, “The Kite Runner” is coming to Madison as part of its new national tour. Based on Khaled Hosseini’s beloved, international best-selling novel, this powerful new play adapted by Matthew Spangler follows one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption.

Overture’s Director of Digital Marketing Dave Alcorn had a chance to sit down with Salar Nader who plays Tabla in the show. Tabla is a pair of hand drums frequently played in popular and folk music performances in India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

While maintaining his traditions, Nader simultaneously weaves the Tabla into today’s hip-hop, EDM and popular musical genres. He hopes to inspire new audiences with universal sound of the Tabla. Nader made his Broadway debut in “The Kite Runner” in 2022 as the onstage percussionist and music arranger.
