At Overture Center, the magic of live performances goes beyond the stage. For couples like Cathey and Dave LaHaye, their involvement with Overture and the Broadway Club has turned into a remarkable journey of friendship, adventure and unforgettable memories.

Artistic adventures

“We feel so fortunate to have this venue so close to us,” Cathey said reminiscing about their first show at Overture—the stunning "Titanic.” Cathey and Dave LaHaye didn’t always have Overture in their lives. It was only once they moved from central Wisconsin to a town a quick drive from Madison that they became loyal patrons of Overture. Since then, the Broadway-loving couple has been active subscribers of the Broadway Club and frequently attend other Overture programs.

Cocktails and more

Dave and Cathey agree that their favorite aspect of their Broadway Club membership has been the travel and connections they’ve made with people through the Broadway Club’s very popular event: Cocktails with Tim & Karra, hosted by Overture’s Chief Artistic Experiences Officer Tim Sauers and Director of Broadway Engagement Programs Karra Beach.

Cocktails with Tim & Karra is a Broadway club Benefit event designed to explore what goes on behind the scenes of a Broadway tour. Guests learn more about the making of the show, what’s happening on Broadway and how a touring show works. They even get to chat with special guests like songwriters, costume designers and Tony Award winners.

For Cathey, the Cocktails events offer a chance to learn about upcoming performances and the stories behind them. “If you don’t know the show or its history, you won’t fully appreciate the performance,” she noted. This deeper understanding enriches her Broadway experience, making each show even more special.

Memorable journeys

Their Broadway Club subscription has brought them around the country and beyond. Cathey and Dave have been on half a dozen Overture bus trips to Chicago for Broadway shows, saw Broadway on a group trip to Las Vegas and went to NYC multiple times with Tim , and they’ve even traveled overseas to London through the Broadway Club. Traveling with their Broadway Club subscriber friends and seeing Broadway shows through this program has been rewarding for the couple, and they are eager to sign up for upcoming trips.

Looking ahead, they are excited for the next Cocktails with Tim & Karra event on November 6 and 7, where they will dive into the details of the upcoming show “& Juliet.” They appreciate how these events include engaging discussions and behind-the-scenes insights, enhancing their understanding of each production. “It’s not just about watching a show; it’s about learning and interacting,” Dave emphasized.

Overture experience

For Cathey and Dave, Overture has become more than just a venue for performances; it has woven itself into the fabric of their lives. They’ve formed long-term friendships, traveled together and built a shared passion for the arts. The couple has plans to attend nearly two dozen events at Overture this season and they love taking advantage of all that Overture has to offer. Whenever they visit Overture, they feel right at home: “I haven’t met an employee here who doesn’t treat you like you’re special, regardless of their position. The employees are very warm and welcoming” Cathey said.

A wish Overture's future

As Overture celebrates its 20th anniversary season, Cathey and Dave have a simple wish: “Keep doing what you’re doing.” They appreciate the diversity of events and the opportunity to learn while enjoying world-class performances and look forward to all that Overture has in store.
