Experience the world at Overture Center’s International Festival
February 13, 2025
Every year, Overture Center transforms into a vibrant hub of global culture, bringing together music, dance, food and more to celebrate our community’s diverse cultures. Our annual International Festival is a free, all-day event that invites you to explore the many cultures that call our community home. The event draws thousands of attendees each year. Whether it’s your first time attending the festival or your tenth, here are a few tips to make the most of your day.
Come early
The festival starts at 10am with an opening ceremony featuring Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association performing traditional Sar Ping style of Lion Dance with music. Get here early so you don’t miss any of the action! It’s a big building, so if it’s your first time visiting, arriving early also gives you a chance to explore with smaller crowds and plan your itinerary before the performances are in full swing. Our staff and volunteers will be happy to point you in the right direction to help you find all of the performance spaces.
Explore dozens of performances and vendors
Have a plan but be flexible
With so much to see and do, it’s helpful to check out the schedule ahead of time. Mark your must-see performances, vendors and exhibits, but don’t be afraid to wander. Some of the most memorable experiences come from stumbling upon something new. You might just find your new favorite music genre or style of dance!
“It’s so exciting to exhibit my work in this space [at Overture] and to be a part of this day focusing on Latino art. We Latino artists have different point of views, styles and tastes, and this a great opportunity to share them.”

Ready your taste buds
One of the festival’s highlights is the opportunity to sample delicious international cuisines. Be sure to stop by the seven food vendors offering a taste of different cultures through their authentic dishes. From savory to sweet, there’s something to satisfy every craving!

Come ready to learn
International Festival is about more than entertainment—it’s about education and cultural exchange. Explore new cultures with student ambassadors from UW-Madison International Reach, engage with artists and performers and ask questions. You’ll leave not only inspired but with a greater appreciation for the traditions and cultures that shape our community.
“Through the International Festival, Overture Center provides a positive view of the world, a chance to expand what you know. People, especially children, may get their first exposure to new cultures and gain this happy understanding of how beautiful these different cultures are. Plus, it’s so much fun!"

Stay in touch
One of the best things about International Festival is that nearly all of the performers, artists and organizations are based right here in Madison. If you love a particular performance, consider attending one of their future events, supporting their work or even getting involved.
Join us to celebrate the rich cultural heritage within our community and enjoy more than 30 performances throughout the building at International Festival on Saturday, March 8. We hope these tips help you get the most out of your festival experience!
