Students shine on stage: Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share at Overture Center

May 28, 2025

This spring, Overture’s Capitol Theater came alive with the energy and talent of young performers during the Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share.

Through a partnership between Overture Center and Disney Theatrical Group, schools receive performance rights and educational materials to produce their very own musical. Disney Musicals in Schools also brings teaching artists specializing in musical theater skills to mentor teachers to be directors, musical directors, choreographers and stage managers. The residency gets students and teachers singing, acting, dancing and creating together each week.

Students from Madison-area elementary schools took the stage to present musical numbers from their Disney Kids productions. The Disney Musicals in Schools program not only brings the magic of theater to students but also builds collaboration and a sense of community for young thespians. Teachers said students who participated in the musical gained confidence, self-esteem and discovered they had skills they didn’t know they had.
