Transcendence and togetherness shine at National Coming Out Day celebration

National Coming Out Day was celebrated by the Wisconsin LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce and their guests at Overture Center on Friday, October 10 in Promenade Hall. More than 100 attendees enjoyed food and community while celebrating LGBTQ people in the Madison area. This annual breakfast celebration was headlined by keynote speaker, TikTok star and non-binary activist author Jeffrey Marsh

Marsh’s affable, humorous and raw keynote was a highlight of the event—at times, asking attendees to have vulnerable conversations while simultaneously bringing laughter and light to the room. While a local photographer (@melaniereneephoto) captured the event, Marsh hilariously stopped mid-keynote to strike a pose.

Marsh shared, “We [LGBTQ folx] are the transcendence and the inspiration. We are a gift for everyone—there is nothing wrong with you.”

National Coming Out Day was first celebrated in 1988 and founded by Jean O’Leary and Dr. Robert Eichberg. The event is championed each year by the Human Rights Campaign.
