At Overture’s Cabaret on Thursday, April 23, Broadway star Patti Murin is stepping into the spotlight in a new way, one that feels closer, more personal and entirely her own. Best known for originating Princess Anna in “Frozen,” Murin brings her powerhouse voice to the cabaret stage while inviting audiences to get to know the person behind the roles.

“I also have been in a lot of Hallmark movies, lots of Christmas movies. I was on ‘Chicago Med’ for a couple seasons, and I played Glinda in the ‘Wicked’ tour and have done a couple other Broadway musicals,” Murin told interviewer and local musical theater aficionado Michael Bruno in this video interview.

Accompanied by longtime collaborator and music director Will Reynolds, Murin’s performance blends Broadway favorites with an eclectic mix of artists—from Taylor Swift and Billy Joel to Gershwin standards and even a touch of Disney (with a twist). The result is a setlist that feels both familiar and refreshingly unexpected, offering something for everyone in the audience.

“With a solo show like this, it's not just about what notes can I hit, how high can I belt. It's really about the performer, the person and the stories."

But what truly sets this show apart is Murin herself. A self-proclaimed “truth teller,” she uses the cabaret format to pull back the curtain on life as a performer, a mother and a human being navigating it all. Between songs, she shares stories that are funny, heartfelt and often delightfully unfiltered, creating a connection with the audience that goes far beyond the music. Her performance is shaped in real time by the energy in the room.

“With a solo show like this, it's not just about what notes can I hit, how high can I belt,” said Murin. “It's really about the performer, the person and the stories."

Cabaret performances have become a meaningful creative outlet for Murin, especially in a season of life that includes raising two young children and balancing a multifaceted career that includes television, films and even audiobook narration. In this format, she can still perform at a high level while staying grounded in what matters most to her. Songs like “Everything Changes” from “Waitress” take on added weight, reflecting her own experiences offstage.

What audiences can expect is a warm, welcoming evening that moves effortlessly between laughter and reflection. It’s a chance to hear incredible music, yes—but also to feel like you’re spending time with a friend who just happens to have a Broadway-caliber voice.
