Jim Hogan in Kimberly Akimbo: What makes this musical so special

Meet Jim Hogan who plays Buddy in the national tour of five-time Tony Award-winning musical “Kimberly Akimbo.”

In this “howlingly funny heartbreaker of a show” (The New Yorker), Kimberly is about to turn 16 and recently moved with her family to a new town in suburban New Jersey. Kim is forced to navigate family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition, her first crush... and possible felony charges. Ever the optimist, she is determined to find happiness against all odds and embark on a great adventure.

Hogan says Kimberly’s father is a fun and challenging role that he is grateful to be a part of.

“Buddy’s got some issues,” laughs Hogan. “Not that I judge him. He desperately has this love for his daughter, but he continues to come up short,” continues Hogan.

When asked why people should see this production, Hogan had this to say:

“If you want to laugh your head off, cry five minutes later, and you want to hear a story that is so rooted in living your life to the fullest, I think this show has something for everyone.”

If you’re still not convinced, the musical features Tony Award®-winning book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire (Shrek), a Tony Award®-winning score by Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home), choreography by Danny Mefford (Dear Evan Hansen) and direction by Tony Award®-nominated director Jessica Stone (Water for Elephants).

Don’t miss Hogan and the rest of the cast of “Kimberly Akimbo” in Madison Tuesday, February 10 – Sunday, February 15! Tickets are available at overture.org.
