Get ready for a night of high kicks, high camp and highly impressive technique! For 50 years, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo has dazzled audiences worldwide with their signature blend of brilliant ballet and laugh-out-loud comedy.

From tutus to toe shoes, the all-male troupe transforms classical ballet into an outrageous, yet deeply skilled, spectacle. With impeccable technique, over-the-top personas and a touch of slapstick, the Trocks deliver a performance that is as breathtaking as it is hilarious.

The world’s foremost gender-skewering comic ballet company now exists in a world that is catching up with their once highly subversive viewpoint, allowing their style of ballet to be viewed simply as sheer entertainment. It offers audiences the opportunity to escape the troubles of the world and go somewhere light and fun for a few hours.

Artistic Director of Madison Ballet Ja’ Malik sat down with Trockadero dancer Robert Carter to learn more about the performances and what audiences can expect.

“The main goal of the group when we put on a performance is just some good, solid entertainment,” says Carter.

Yes, we are funny, but we also want to show you that we can dance.

Carter, who has been with the troupe since 1995, says they try to set up the program to bring people in through humor. The dancers work hard to balance their serious ballet technique with silly antics, all for the enjoyment of their audience.

“Yes, we are funny, but we also want to show you that we can dance,” adds Carter.

Since its founding in 1974, the company has grown into a crowd-pleasing, globe-spanning phenomenon, having performed in over 43 countries and 667 cities for enthusiastic crowds of all sizes.

“It’s the perfect time to be in Madison. I think audiences are ready for it. They are looking forward to escapism and a moment of beauty and joy, and that’s exactly what you all are bringing,” says Ja’ Malik.
