“Sow’s Ear, Silk Purse” will be performed at Collins Recital Hall, Mead Witter School of Music, UW-Madison Campus, Sunday, June 7, at 2:30 PM. The concert will be preceded by an introductory talk and demonstration by the San Francisco Piano Trio, from 1:30 – 2:15 PM.
In BDDS’s 29th season, “Riches to Rags,” the San Francisco Piano Trio launches the Beethoven trio cycle with a special concert at Collins Hall, the only one of our seven programs exclusively dedicated to the Beethoven trios. Featuring Beethoven’s first- and last-published multi-movement trios, the program “Sow’s Ear, Silk Purse” shows Beethoven as the supreme master of turning the most banal musical elements (sow’s ears) into towering masterpieces (silk purses).
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Trio in E-flat Major, op. 1, no. 1
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Trio in B-flat Major, op. 97, “Archduke”
Attend all seven programs during Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society’s chamber music festival, which include insightful commentary and delightful surprises.
