Five-year-old’s first Overture experience ‘rocks’ his world
Like most five-year-old boys, Harrison Schulz enjoys playing with his friends and learning new skills in his pre-kindergarten classes. He attends Windsor Elementary School, where the highlights of his day are coloring and recess. In his free time, he enjoys basketball, soccer and listening to music, especially his favorite band, The Beatles.
When Harrison’s aunt Amanda Utz, director of human resources at Overture, heard “RAIN – A Tribute to The Beatles” was coming to Overture this spring, Amanda reached out to her sister and brother-in-law, Stefanie and Herry Schulz, and together they conspired a plan to surprise Harrison with tickets to the show.
“Harrison likes a lot of music, but he clearly loves The Beatles,” said Amanda. “He watches The Beatles special on Disney almost every day, usually fast-forwarding to the Rooftop Concert, his most-loved performance.”
On Friday, April 1, Amanda, Stefanie and Herry brought Harrison to Overture Center, his first time at the performing arts center, for The Beatles tribute concert.
According to the Associated Press, RAIN’s mind-blowing performance takes you back in time with the legendary foursome delivering a note-for-note theatrical event that is “the next best thing to seeing The Beatles!”
Harrison agrees. Although only five years old, he understands not all the Beatles are still alive. But walking into Overture Hall before the concert, he noted excitedly, “This looks just like The Beatles!”
The iconic band featured updated sets with state-of-the-art LED, high-definition screens and multimedia content, bringing the “Abbey Road” album and the “Rooftop Concert” to life. Together longer than The Beatles, RAIN has mastered every song, gesture and nuance of the legendary foursome, delivering a totally live, note-for-note performance that’s as infectious as it is transporting. They played all The Beatles’ greatest hits and most popular songs.
This tribute took Harrison and the crowd back to a time when all you needed was love, and a little help from your friends―or at least at little help from your mom and “best aunt ever”!
“Harrison was jamming and singing along to the songs, really into the music,” said Amanda. “He thought Paul was really good.”
To top off the night, RAIN even played Harrison’s two favorite songs, “Get Back” and “Ob-la-di, ob-la-da.”
“All four of us had so much fun,” said Utz. “We’ll definitely be exploring the new season for another opportunity to bring Harrison to Overture to experience the joy of live performance again soon.”
