Join us for a reception and presentation exploring Aldo Leopold’s “Land Ethic,” which describes the responsibility to care for humans, the land and the interconnectedness of the entire ecosystem. Hear from Aldo Leopold Foundation’s Visiting Artist Max Sorenson and Executive Director Buddy Huffaker on the land ethic, prescribed fire and communal land stewardship.

This event will also be live streamed as part of Leopold Week Events for those unable to attend in person.

Meet the Speakers

Buddy Huffaker

For over 20 years Buddy has been instrumental in the Aldo Leopold Foundation’s effort to advance a Land Ethic.  This Includes stewarding the Leopold Shack and Farm National Historic Landmark, and advocating for a conservation ethic through the documentary film Green Fire, translations of "A Sand County Almanac," and other publications, presentations, and programs. He has participated in three White House Conferences on conservation and environmental education and is recognized as one of the leading voices on the important role for ethics to guide humanity's relationship with nature.

Max Sorenson

Max Sorenson is an artist, conservationist, and former Land Stewardship Fellow at the Aldo Leopold Foundation. His work focuses on the connections to a larger community of life that can come from collective stewardship of the land, with a special attention to plants and our relationships with them. He has been a resident artist at Tranquilo Bay Eco-Adventure Lodge in Bocas del Toro, Panamá and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Cedar Point Biological Station. Max holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Biology from Grinnell College in rural Iowa and is currently based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
