Meet the Artist
Drum Power
Drum Power was founded by Yorel Lashley, PhD, in NYC in 2001 to teach West African, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian drumming in after-school programs at community-based sites in Harlem/Manhattan, Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn as well as during the academic day at school sites. Lashley moved to Madison in 2010 and started the program here. To date, more than 4,000 young people have participated in at least one academic year of Drum Power. Today's performers will exemplify Drum Power's pillars: discipline, leadership and community, with support from Lashley and co-director Tom Ross.
