Experience breathtaking stories of the East through the graceful postures, percussive feet, vibrant costumes and dynamic expressions of the Kalaanjali dancers. Dancers of all ages, some as young as five, captivate with the beauty and elegance of Bharatanatyam-style dancing from southern India. Enjoy melodious music, expressive hand gestures and the enchanting sound of bells on their feet!

The 1pm performance will be American Sign Language interpreted. Please email kidsintherotunda@overture.org at least one hour ahead to be seated within sight of the interpreter for live performances.

Meet the Artist

Kalaanjali Indian Dance Company

Guru Meenakshi Ganesan is the founder and artistic director of Kalaanjali Dance Company since 2003. She started her training at the tender age of six under Guru Prema Nagasundaram and Guru Padmini Radhakrishnan and has more than 2,500 performances to her credit in various countries like the UK, India, Canada and the US. She was conferred the prestigious title of Nritya Mayuri (“Dancing Peacock”) by the Ministry of Education. She has performed at several prestigious events and venues, such as the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana and the World Music Festival, and she continues to have the privilege of working, learning, curating and leading various productions with Stalwarts in the field of music and dance. She currently trains numerous students both in Wisconsin and California and has successfully conducted 38 Arangetrams (student graduation recitals) under Kalaanjali. She has been recognized as a Master Artist and is the recipient of the Folk Apprenticeship Grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board 2015-2021 and has also served on the board in 2022. During the pandemic, she was instrumental in curating the virtual platform, NatyAkademi, by providing a forum for students, Gurus and senior artists in the field of Bharatanatyam and classical Indian dance. She continues to train her students in Wisconsin and in San Francisco.
